~ STORY BEHIND THE DAY~ EPISODE SIX “WAHOO MADNESS WITH INTO THE BLUE TV”

March 31, 2021 ~ Key West, FL

Captain Brandon Simmons - I got the call from Scott and Steve from Into the Blue TV show to meet them in Key West for a day of fishing and to film a new episode for the 2021 season.. So I got up early because the drive from Marathon to Key West is about an hour and fifteen minutes. I talked to Scott when I was pulling into Stock Island where they keep the 36 Yellowfin when they are filming down there at Oceans Edge Resort. I got on the boat and started rigging up rods for trolling while we waited on Steve to show up. When he showed up he hopped on the boat and we went straight to the bait patch out front of Downtown Key West and instantly got into the Threadfin Herrings. We loaded the wells with those then went to catch some Speedos for trolling around offshore. When we got out there the fishing was slow but we managed to land a Kingfish and a couple Mahi. Next thing you know the weather got really nice and the wind calmed down. We found some beautiful purple water to the East and the bite was on!! The Wahoo were everywhere and the drags were peeling off the reels before we knew it. The fight was on. Landing the first two fish in minutes we saw there were more down below the ones we had just stuck with the gaff. Without hesitation Scott being well, Scott, he fired out some more cut bait and had the Wahoo in a feeding frenzy right next to the boat! Underwater camera man Jake Perry jumped in the water and saw a ton of free swimmers eating the cut bait. Hooked up again we finished off the day with two more BIG Wahoo. All in all it was an awesome day and one i’m happy I got to be a part of, thanks to the guys from Into the Blue!
